SOTOMONTE

Sotomonte is a rock group led by Jokin Salaverria, a musician from Bizkaia who after years of experience as a bassist, accompanying national and international artists on both sides of the Atlantic, decided to create something of his own.

To do this, he joined forces with the well-known producer Iñigo Bregel, resulting in the band’s first album “From Prayer to the Battlefield” (2021). In which the multiple influences of its composer emerge, “trying not to fall into the obvious.” or in an exercise of style” with the culminating purpose of giving life, both sonically, poetically and ideologically, to a wide artistic and imaginative universe.

Sotomonte’s music is defined by its author as Hard Folk, a label that serves to encompass an amalgam of influences between British psychedelia, folk with progressive touches, touches of hard rock, and never forgetting its more American influences, especially the three-part harmonies which inevitably remind the sound of Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles, where the author resided for years.

This first album received a great reception both nationally and internationally, selling in more than 20 countries, with glowing reviews in media such as Shindig, a leading English magazine and playing for months on Rock Radio UK.

In addition to Jokin on lead vocals and bass, the solid musicians that complete the band are Unai G. Kortazar on drums, Xabier Badiola, guitar and backing vocals, Miguel Moral, guitar and backing vocals, and Alberto Trigueros on keyboards.

Live Sotomonte are a band that combines youth and experience, with a powerful sound that reproduces all the nuances of the albums, to which they incorporate the festive spirit of the classic jam bands, in addition to emphasizing their influences closest to Hard Rock. and psychedelic folk.

Currently the band is immersed in the recording of their second album “Decadence & Renaissance”, which will be released in the spring of 2024, once again with Iñigo Bregel as producer. Stay tuned!
