LITA FORD
London (United Kingdom) - 1958
Lita Ford’s career began in 1975 as a founding member and guitarist of the all-female hard rock / punk Edge band The Runaways (Los Angeles, USA), with hits such as “Cherry Bomb” and “Queens of Noise”.
In 1983, Lita launched her solo career with her debut album “Out For Blood”. A year later, the release of “Dancin’ on the Edge” earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and her singles “Fire In My Heart” and “Gotta Let Go” brought her to the top of the MTV charts.
2018 marked the 30th anniversary of the multi-platinum self-titled album “Lita”, which cemented Ford as one of the music industry’s most influential female performers, earning her the title of “Queen of Metal”, and featured the worldwide mega-hits “Kiss Me Deadly” (MTV VMAs nominee for Female Video of the Year) and the ballad “Close My Eyes Forever” with Ozzy Osbourne, which remained in the Billboard top 10 for 25 weeks.
Her subsequent three albums, “Stiletto”, “Dangerous Curves” and “Black”, produced the hits “Hungry”, “Playin’ with Fire” and “Shot of Poison”, for which she was renominated for a Grammy.
After a 13-year break, in 2008 Lita returned to the stage stronger than ever. After the release of “Living Like A Runaway” and “Time Capsule”, in 2014 she was awarded two industry accolades for forever changing the role of women in music: The Guitar Player Lifetime Achievement Award and the Guitar Player Certified Legend Award, which led to her being included in the Guitar Players Hall of Fame.
At the 2017 She Rocks Awards, Lita received the coveted Icon Award and the title of “First Lady” of Guitar Rock. Laura B. Whitmore, producer of the She Rocks Awards, commented, “Whether as a solo artist, band member or guitar shredder, Lita Ford is a true trailblazer who has broken barriers and inspires today’s female guitarists”. Ford continues to encourage and inspire aspiring musicians by teaching and mentoring through her work with Rock and Roll Fantasy Camps.
Lita now holds numerous other prestigious awards: The Hollywood FAME Producers Choice “Icon” Lifetime Achievement Award, the “Legend” Inductee Nomination in the Heavy Metal History Walk of Fame (2019) and the display of her iconic Morice II B.C. Rich Warlock guitar in the main lobby of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland OH.
Ford and his band continue to tour and headline major events throughout the United States and the rest of the world.
