ERROBI
Labort, 1973
Errobi was an influential Basque band that marked a milestone in the music of the 70s and 80s.
They began in 1973 in Labort, with musicians Anje Duhalde and Mixel Ducau as founding members.
Throughout their career, Errobi managed to masterfully fuse traditional Basque folk with progressive rock and psychedelia—this made them stand out at a time when progressive music was experiencing an explosion throughout Europe. In the Basque Country, together with bands like Izukaitz, Haizea and Itoiz…, Errobi was one of the bands that contributed the most to the creation of a unique musical scene that incorporated the Basque cultural identity to the rock scene.
Although their discography is relatively short, the band left a significant legacy. Their most celebrated album, Ametsaren bidea (The Gream Path), has been described as “the best album to emerge from Basque progressive music”, cementing their place in the history of music in Basque. This work, along with the rest of their discography, showed Errobi’s experimental eagerness, which was nourished by foreign influences to enrich their proposal.
Throughout their career, Errobi remained faithful to a risky and unique musical proposal. Their style broke frontiers, both musical and linguistic, as pioneers in the use of the Basque language in progressive rock. Their influence was not only felt at the time, it has lasted until today, leaving a void that only the most daring bands have tried to fill.
After more than a decade of activity and after the release of their last album, Agur t’erdi (Goodbye) in 1985, Errobi said goodbye to the stage, although their legacy endured.
In 2005, the band received posthumous recognition with the release of a box set that remastered their five albums, offering new generations the opportunity to enjoy their music.
In 2023, Errobi revived with a commemorative tour to celebrate their 50-year mark in the history of Basque rock, a tour that will run until the end of 2025 and will make a stop at the BBK Bilbao Music Legends Fest. More than a band, Errobi have been a fundamental pillar in the construction of rock in Basque, and their influence is still alive, both in current musicians and in the collective imagination of Basque music, allowing us to enjoy their legacy today.
