Ben was born into a family marked by a major musical culture. His paternal grandmother sang Cherokee songs and he grew up helping his family run an old record store, where he says that there were some real gems to be found.
Beginning with his 1994 debut Welcome To The Cruel World, Ben Harper set out on a career that has ranged across multiple genres including soul, rock, blues, R&B, reggae and folk,
Rolling Stone hailed his songs as “jewels of uniquely tender rock & roll”, while Billboard said his music “reminds us of the power and beautiy of simplicity”.
His Grammy-nominated latest album No Mercy In This Land was recorded in 2018 with Blues legend Charlie Musselwhite, with whom he has also toured extensively.

Since their beginnings in 1993, The Innocent Criminals (percussionist Leon Mobley, bassist Juan Nelson, drummer Oliver Charles and guitarist Jason Mozersky) have taken part in most of Ben Harper’s projects.
